Sintering Furnace: Titanium Alloy Casting Process Characteristics

The shape and size of the piece, the second is to make the casting microstructure and use performance to meet the design specifications. So that is titanium alloy in the casting deformation of the formation of bad microstructure is difficult to improve. Therefore, before the development of casting process, it is necessary to understand the casting process characteristics of titanium alloys. The casting process characteristics of titanium alloys mainly include the following three aspects.

  Casting

The shape and size of the castings, and secondly, to make the microstructure and performance of the castings to meet the requirements of the design specifications. So that is the titanium alloy in the casting deformation of the formation of bad microstructure is difficult to improve. Therefore, before the development of casting process, it is necessary to understand the casting process characteristics of titanium alloys. Titanium alloy casting process characteristics include the following three aspects.

  1. Large deformation resistance

Large deformation resistance is one of the significant features of titanium alloy casting deformation. Compared with other alloy structural steel, when deformed under the same casting deformation temperature conditions, the deformation resistance of titanium alloy is large, and rises rapidly as the casting deformation temperature decreases. Therefore, due to the large deformation resistance of titanium alloys, a slight decrease in the temperature of titanium alloys during casting deformation will also lead to a significant increase in deformation resistance. Therefore, selecting a reasonable casting deformation temperature is the first task of titanium alloy casting.

  2. Poor thermal conductivity

Poor thermal conductivity is another significant feature of titanium alloy, part of the thermal conductivity of titanium alloy. Poor thermal conductivity makes the surface of the titanium alloy billet cools faster than the inside after heating, if not operated properly will cause a relatively large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the billet, exacerbating the unevenness of the billet inside and outside of the billet in the casting deformation process, which will seriously affect the service life of the titanium alloy casting and the reliability of the use of the titanium alloy castings. Therefore, adequate preheating and titanium alloy billets in direct contact with the tools, such as casting molds and clamps, etc., is a very important work in the production of titanium alloy casting.

  3. Large viscosity and poor fluidity

Due to the viscosity of titanium alloy and poor mobility, titanium alloy casting deformation must be strengthened lubrication, otherwise it will produce sticky mold and material reflux phenomenon, but also due to increased friction makes the deformation of the resistance to a significant increase in the mold and sometimes because of the sticky casting and tearing castings. The results of experimental research show that: under the condition of not using lubricant, the friction coefficient of titanium alloy in high temperature upsetting is 0.5, and when using glass lubricant, the friction coefficient of titanium alloy in high temperature upsetting is 0.04~0.06. Therefore, the use of reasonable lubricant in titanium alloy casting is an important measure to guarantee the quality of titanium alloy castings.
